Since its introduction in the nineteenth century, the electric motor has become a major force in industry. Small motors, in particular, have become essential tools of convenience, for instance inside of car seats. The ever-growing functionality of the electric motor, as well as stricter regulations, require new and/or revised testing procedures.
In addition to conventional motor tests involving the test object, load machine and torque measurement; model-based testing by the Parameter-Identification (PI) method has become established in cases where motors are already installed in machinery or otherwise difficult to access. The decisive advantage of PI test stands for product control is that only easily accessible signals need be measured and mechanical coupling is unnecessary.
