CRONOS-PL Modular Universal Data Acquisition
Cronos-PL Platform for Universal Measurement and Control

CRONOS-PL is the first ever realization of the integrated platform concept, so popular in the automotive industry, applied to a data acquisition system.

"Integrated Measurement Engineering" opens new possibilities in measurement technology for development, testing, production and service applications alike.

With all the advantages of the classic PC-instrumentation's flexibility, the CRONOS-PL also includes the portability, performance, and ease-of-use of conventional measurement instrumentation.

CRONOS-PL comes in several housing options, from the small and portable PL4, the PL8 shown here in desktop enclosure, to full fledged 19" rack sized devices (PL13, PL15, and PL16).

Each system gives you access to an integrated analog throughput of 400 kS/s and channel counts up to 512, all fully conditioned, with software selectable filters and amplifier ranges.

In fact, the CRONOS-PL's modular hardware architecture, utilizing both field-programmable gate arrays and digital signal processors, gives you more real-time power than is possible with a PC system, allowing several control and measurement tasks to be performed simultaneously.

Consider all of the features included with the entire CRONOS-PL platform:

  • Self-contained, complete and ready-to-go...
    • No programming required to start making high precision measurements
    • Software includes configuration, live and offline display, and report generator are all included
    • Ethernet interface for networked configuration and operation, including combining multiple imc Devices into a larger virtual instrument
    • PCMCIA storage slot for removable solid-state storage (flash) memory cards, up to 2048 MB (2GB)
    • Optional ruggedized internal hard drive for continuous recording of up to 60 GB.
  • User selectable operation modes, configured from the PC
    • Configuration of all I/O channels and real time processing via Ethernet
    • Live viewing of all acquired and processed / virtual channels via Ethernet
    • Stand alone operation - PC need not be present to record data to internal storage devices (hard drive and/or flash)
    • Sampling rate and data storage on-board, PC RAM, and/or PC Disk individually selectable for each channel and virtual channel
    • Power-on and go by preloading your measurement configuration, perfect for in-vehicle and field measurements where a PC or Laptop is difficult to use
  • Dual independent synchronized timebases give you 400 kHz aggregate sampling, up to 50 kHz on a single channel, and with the power of the DSP, infinite combinations of storage rates, independently selectable for each channel.
  • Full power DSP, includes simple arithmetic, max, min, mean calculations and much more
    • Logic and comparator functions for triggering, digital input/output
    • Statistical functions with moving window calculations
    • FFT and vector based calculations
    • Linear and non-linear filters, including Butterworth, Bessel, Chebychev, Critical damping, median, hysterestic, slope limited, and smoothing
    • State machine and asynchronous process control loops
    • and more...
  • Electrical Interface, this AC/DC powered (9 - 36 VDC with internal battery backup) system includes
    • 1 - 16 analog input slots for up to 8 differential, simultaneously sampled and fully conditioned analog inputs, for voltages up to +/- 50V, current (4 - 20 mA), bridge inputs (full, half, quarter), and temperature (includes built in CJC).
    • Full 16-bit resolution, anti-aliased 6-pole Butterworth Filter per channel
    • Support for multiple Digital interface cards, including digital input / output lines, counter / dual track encoders, or multiple independent 16-bit analog outputs (DAC)
    • Software selectable regulated voltage supplies built-in for external sensor excitation;

To obtain higher channel counts, multiple devices (includinng CRONOS-PL, SPARTAN, u-MUSYCS, and BusDAQ) can be physically networked together via Ethernet and easily synchronized with an integrated absolute time clock.

An optional CANBus interface is available for deploying CRONOS-PL in the transportation industry and distributed production facilities. CRONOS-PL's dual-node CANBus interface is able to interact with any CANBus device, processing and displaying measurement results in conjunction with all other analog and digital channels.

Additional options for the CRONOS-PL include our powerful offline analysis package, FAMOS . Contact imc DataWorks for more information.

Isn't it time to break away from the PC-card into the world of truly portable instrument grade measurements!

imc CRONOS-PL Works without a PC

CRONOS-PL works independently of the PC. Captured data are stored within the device on ruggedized IDE hard drive or removable solid state CF-cards. The data carriers ensure seamless storage of measured data and provide the maximum safety for data. If direct live display of measured data is desired, the PC is not the only option: the robust and bright TFT graphical terminal is an excellent alternative. A variety of different setups, and graphical data display modes are available at the push of a button.

Remote Control and Data Transfer

Wireless access to CRONOS-PL is possible via WLAN, UMTS or GPRS data links. An internal modem allows long-term monitoring and notification of, for instance, value limit violations, by SMS or E-Mail. This can be extended with constant online monitoring and remote parameterization via the Internet.

Universal, Network-Capable Intelligence

With its freely configurable measurement amplifier design, CRONOS-PL allows direct connection of any desired signals and sensors, and provides both power and conditioning.

This enables ideal system adaptation to a wide variety of measurement tasks. Besides the acquisition of raw data, freely defined processing of channel signals can be performed in real time. All analog or digital channels, as well as computed data streams, are available for use in openand closed-loop control tasks, or for value limit monitoring. Meanwhile, measurement channels carried on the CAN/LIN-Bus, and encoded in a variety of protocols, can be acquired in synchronization with the others and processed in the same way as the analog measurement channels.
