imc DataWorks specializes in multi-parameter, mixed-signal mechanical data
acquisition, measurement, and control. This includes Mechanical, Electromechanical and
Mechatronic measurements required for trucks and other heavy vehicle development
and testing, including vehicle component, subsystem, type testing, and full vehicle tests.
Within the heavy vehicle manufacturing industries, imc's involvement in Test &
Measurement has concentrated on three primary areas:
Field Testing
- Unattended / "Black Box" Logging
- Onboard flash storage > 32 GB
- DC Operation, 10 - 32 VDC, with battery backup
- J1939 synchronized with analog & digital discrete signals
- Harsh Environment: shock, vibration, temperature extremes, dirt / dust / moisture / water spray
- Distributed and Multi-point synchronized recording
- Performance / Economy / Efficiency cycle testing

Component Testing
- HVAC Systems
- Braking Systems / Pneumatics
- Emissions / Cooling package
- Suspension and Handling
- Engine / Engine Dyno Testing
- ...
|
|
Stationary Vehicle Testing
- Test Cell & Chassis Dyno
- Synchronized recording facility & vehicle signals
- Wind Tunnel & dyno, "from road to dyno" compatibility
- Subsystem Integration Testing: Engine ECU, Powertrain, Clutch, ...
- Test Data Analysis and Report Generation

Whereas in-vehicle testing for automotive tests stresses compactness,
within Heavy and other Commercial Vehicle testing, ruggedness and durability is more critical. With testing
oftentimes stretching to days, weeks, or even months of near continuous running, simultaneously and reliably logging
J1939 CANBus data, discrete analog and digital signals, and other supplementary signals, such as GPS.

Road Testing at Volvo Truck
One of the most challenging aspects of on-road vehicle testing
is testing in remote areas, well removed from the R & D center.
With the help of imc technology, Volvo Truck has implemented a test
system that crosses state and country borders. The key feature: every
truck's measurement process can be observed and controlled without
the test engineers ever leaving the office, significantly reducing the
chance of expensive retesting due to bad road data.

Powertrain Testing in Extreme Environments
As summer begins to turn to fall, many test engineers have one thing
on their mind: cold weather testing. An extreme example is seen in the Bombardier
(maker of Ski-Doo Snow Mobiles) test labs in Finland. With the help of imc Technology,
Bombardier
engineers performed a series of in-vehcile, long-duration fatigue tests to examine
proposed design changes to a popular sled model, all under actual extreme cold conditions.
